ASSOCIATE PRODUCER (News Nightly)
EWTN

LOCATION: Washington, DC

DESCRIPTION:
The Associate Producer will work with the Producer and the entire EWTN News Nightly editorial team to produce content with a strict deadline for a daily newscast.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Produce segments on national/international news that help viewers to understand the day’s news from a Catholic perspective.
• Contribute to a lively, fast-paced newscast that includes news packages, voice overs, and discussion segments.
• Act as fill-in line producer when needed.
• Assist in writing scripts for newscast and TV news brief.
• Assist in producing Rome/Vatican content.
• Produce engaging content for broadcast and digital platforms.
• Work with editors to facilitate production.
• Watch and log video and sound for various events.
• Communicate with production crew about executing the newscast.
• Review and pull video for stories (packages and VOs) and monitor AP wires.
• Assist in content for social media.
• Visualize and order graphics.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in TV broadcast news, producing newscasts in medium or large markets.
• Possess solid news judgement and attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to visually and creatively tell a story and engage viewers using graphics and other elements.
• Experience utilizing broadcast software programs (i.e., iNews, AP ENPS).
• Excellent broadcast writing skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Collaborate easily within a team and also work well independently.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Catholic Faith and EWTN’s mission.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends/nights when required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field.

CORRESPONDENT (News Nightly)
EWTN

LOCATION: Washington, DC

DESCRIPTION:
The News Nightly Correspondent works with the Senior Producer and the entire team to gather, produce, and present daily news from a Catholic perspective.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Gather, produce, and present news packages, VOs, VOSOTs, demonstrating knowledge of current events and public policy from a Catholic perspective.
• Pitch original story ideas at daily editorial meetings that examine the intersection of Catholic Social Teaching and public policy.
• Develop sources and contacts in Washington, D.C. and around the country.
• Collaborate with the editorial and technical teams to provide all appropriate elements for stories (i.e. photos, videos, and graphics).
• Use various social media platforms.
• Stay up to date on current events through newspapers, websites, and Catholic publications.
• Multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
• Establish and maintain relationships within the community. This may include public appearances and covering events of relevance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 3 years’ broadcast news experience.
• Excellent news judgment.
• Strong journalistic skills and ability to follow standard journalistic practices, particularly accuracy, honesty and integrity.
• Applicable knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources, including social media (ability to engage audience on digital platforms in the public space).
• Practicing Catholic with demonstrated understanding of the Catholic faith and ability to apply to stories being covered.
• Strong on-air presentation - must be credible, personable and passionate.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with proper attention to detail.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as work well within a team.
• Must embrace peer-to-peer feedback and constructive criticism designed to enhance performance.
• Familiarity with AP products.
• Flexibility on work schedule (some nights and weekends may be required) with the ability to travel as needed on short notice.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

PRODUCER (News Programming)
EWTN

LOCATION: Washington, DC

DESCRIPTION:
The Producer will work with the Executive Producer and Host to launch a new, weekly program to discuss major events, ideas, and currents of thought involving the Catholic Church, politics, and the wider culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Work with the executive producer, the host and the entire team to produce a weekly discussion show that is engaging, interesting, and helps shape public opinion.
• Identify relevant topics of discussion and pitch show topics to the editorial team. Contribute ideas to editorial meetings about upcoming shows.
• Write broadcast copy, gather video and graphic elements, and produce show.
• Use Associated Press products including the wires and video platforms. Use CNN Newsource.
• Work with videographers and editors.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of five years’ experience in broadcast or print journalism, politics, communications or a related field.
• Demonstrated understanding of Catholicism, the Magisterium, and Catholic Social Teaching.
• Excellent news judgment when it comes to the intersection of Catholicism, public policy and discourse.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to break down complex information into simple, broadcast language to engage viewers.
• Experience utilizing broadcast software programs (i.e., iNews, AP ENPS).
• Excellent broadcast writing and communication skills, including social media skills.
• Collaborate easily within a team and work well independently.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule when required.

The EWTN News Nightly Anchor works with the Senior Producer and the entire team to deliver a high-quality newscast from a Catholic perspective.

• With the help of the segment producer, prepare for discussion segments with experts and pundits on current events, Catholic issues and the intersection of the Catholic Social Teaching and public policy.
• Provide story ideas at daily editorial meetings.
• Collaborate with the team on the daily news cast, special segments, and holiday shows.
• Stay up to date on current events through newspapers, websites, and Catholic publications.
• Establish and maintain contacts and relationships within the Catholic community and beyond. This may include public appearances at relevant events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 5 years of broadcasting news experience, including previous anchoring experience.
• Excellent news judgment.

BOOKER/RESEARCHER (News Programming)
EWTN

LOCATION: Washington, DC

DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Executive Producer, the Booker/Researcher will book high-profile guests for a weekly long-format show and research/screen guests as appropriate.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Cultivate a relationship with potential guests, PR firms and government officials in a professional manner.
• Book and research high-profile guests and conduct telephone interviews under the guidance of the executive producer.
• Maintain and build upon existing database of contacts.
• Accompany guests in and out of the EWTN studio.
• Manage the calendar of Catholic, political and cultural events that could be a venue for topics/guests.
• Communicate with the executive producer about potential topics/events.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a newsroom.
• Superior organizational & time management skills with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to represent EWTN in a professional and engaging manner.
• Excellent news judgment.
• Practicing Catholic with in-depth knowledge of the Catholic Church and relevant topics.
• A passion for Catholicism and current events. Contacts and networking within the Catholic community helpful.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule when necessary.
• Familiarity with Microsoft products (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel) and AP news software (ENPS preferred). Experience with databases helpful.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Science or related field
